Bill Cassara…recipient of the 2012 term Silver CAAF Tongue Award!

I try to make it a habit to read the blogs posted on CAAFlog.com everyday.  This blog provides military justice news and often summarizes the results of appellate cases from each of the service appellate courts and from the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (CAAF).  I read these blogs and conduct my own appellate research daily so that I am always aware of the latest appellate decisions which affect my clients and their courts-martial.  Yesterday, I was surprised and excited to see that the blog was about me.  Yesterday, the CAAFlog blog announced that I was one of two winners of the 2012 term “Silver CAAF Tongue Award.”  According to CAAFlog, this award is one that they award to the appellate counsel who has argued the most cases at CAAF during the term.  I am one of two recipients of this award this year because I had four oral arguments in front of CAAF.  These four cases were U.S. v. Gaskins, U.S. v. Squire, U.S. v. Garner and U.S. v. Vazquez.   I am proud of the arguments in each of these cases.  As you can read on my webpage www.courtmartial.com, in U.S. v. Gaskins, his conviction for sexual assault was overturned based on my argument.  In addition, I had two cases “summarily reversed” on appeal at CAAF without even going to oral argument.   This is extremely rare, and happened twice this year alone.  These were not my only appellate arguments this past term, I also argued several more at the service appellate court level (Army Court of Criminal Appeals, Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals and Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals)  and was very successful for my clients.  Just last week, the Army Court of Criminal Appeals reversed my client’s two rape convictions in United States v. Lopez (See, Recent Accomplishments-Courts Martial Appeals.)   Additionally, I have represented numerous service members at their court-martials and other military matters this past year.  I love what I do, and I am here to help current and former service members.  I have been doing this work for a long time.  I am not afraid to strongly advocate for my clients.  If you or your loved one needs representation, I have the experience you need.  To speak to an experienced court-martial and military defense attorney, call Bill Cassara at 706-860-5769 for a free consultation.
